Choosing a Kids Dentist

Choosing a kids dentist is important. You don’t want to pick any old dentist. You want to choose a dentist that is kid friendly. Preferably you want to choose a dentist that only works with kids. If you pick a dentist that is not kid friendly you could be setting your child up for a lifetime of dental phobia.

Start by looking for kids dentists in your area. Do a Google search to see how many you can find. Find out which ones take your insurance. This will help you narrow down the choices. You can also look on review sites to see if anyone has reviewed the dentists you have picked out.

Ask around to people that you know. Find out what dentist they use for their kids. You can ask friends and family members who they use. It also can’t hurt to ask co-workers because they have the same insurance as you so they may know somebody good that takes your insurance.

Go visit the different dentists offices. Are they kid friendly? Ask them what their typical visit is like. You want the atmosphere to be relaxed so your kid will be comfortable there. Ask them what a typical visit is like. Meet with the dentist so you can get an idea of what his chair side manner is like.

Find out if they do special things to make the kids comfortable. They may call them by their nickname instead of their formal name. They may give out prizes at the end of a visit.
